Manley Neo-Classic SE/PP 300B Review, Cont.

With the Manley amps jamming in SE serendipity with the Impulse Ta’us they did more than just recreate the performance of these amazing jazz players.  The system resurrected them.  As a tube loving audiophile friend of mine said while hearing this recording, “This is the best audio system I have ever heard.” Something that went well beyond “palpable presence” was magically, almost spookily, at work.

In a series of perfectly expressed musical moments, we were hearing what high-end audio is all about; the ability to authentically create all the joy, wonder, and enthrallment that great music has to offer. I still get goose bumps when I hear this album played back via the Manley’s. Davis and his horn burst forth with the uncompromised energy of his genius. Almost inexplicably, Coltrane and his sax do Miles one better and ascend to a musical plane that few, if any, have since matched. The Manley’s had the ability to convey the awesome truth about Coltrane’s stunning musical feat. If Marsalis had heard the Trane’s performance played back over this system, perhaps he would have quit in panicked frustration after all.

During the review period the drop dead gorgeous Manley’s ran without a hitch. They were quiet, robust, and eminently user friendly. I have not heard every SE amp out there, but for this reviewer the Manley Neo-Classic SE/PP 300B definitely gets the nod as the go-to SE amp for the audiophile who wants it all.
